Between Park and Broadway was born and bred a girl to a single mother in the projects of Bed Stuy. Shonda always had a knack for community and creativity, beginning as a childhood dancer, actress and singer. During her academic career as a primary, secondary and college student, Shonda has received accolades such as The Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund and Merit Scholar Awards.
Shonda commenced pursuing her professional career in communications during her freshman year as a Junior celebrity publicist at Reinchild Public Relations – working with talent such as Tiffany Foxx and Bambi from Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta. In addition, she was a radio personality and producer – as DJ Shonda rella – for her two hour on-air program, Jet Set Radio, on WSTU Radio at Clark Atlanta University. Some of Shonda’s most notable guests include R&B icon Sammie, BET’s The Game actor Hozea Chanchez, and T.I. And Tiny’s Family Hustle’s own Domani Harris.
Throughout her time at Spelman College, Shonda has interned at Johnson & Johnson, Hip Hop Enquirer Magazine, WJLA-TV, Turner Broadcasting, and much more in public relations, production, editorial and digital media. Post graduation, with no job offers in hand, Shonda birthed Gold Blooded Communications, a boutique agency that caters to the positive representation of millennials and minorities in entertainment and lifestyle brands. Clients have ranged from Jermaine Dupri’s The Rap Game season one winner Miss Mulatto to rapper and reality star Chinese Kitty to girl boss entrepreneur Alechia Reese.
Currently a full-time publicity assistant at Universal Music Group and part-time graduate student at Georgetown University, Shonda still finds the time to feed her passions while keeping her head afloat and making depression her bitch. She has served as a public relations freelancer and consultant for 360 Gateway Brands, Access NKC, Playbook Media Group and Whose Your Landlord.
